Oh you thought Nintendo was done after dropping two free Switch 2 enhancement updates in quick succession? Hahaha, nope!
A couple nights ago, at about the same time the 4.0.0 update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dropped, Nintendo also added three new titles to Nintendo Classics' NES library. Now, none of these games are all that earth-shattering for me personally, but it's neat to see them still finding new NES games to add nearly 8 years into the library's existence.
The games in question are Ikari Warriors, RC Pro-Am II, and Ninja Gaiden III. I don't have much to say on any of these titles, so I'll just quickly go over them real quick.
Ikari Warriors is an arcade game by SNK that made its way to the NES. It's a top down shooter game that pits you against hordes of enemies and seems to feature a co-op mode.
RC Pro-Am II is an isometric racing game from Rare (yes, that Rare), and is a sequel to, well, RC Pro-Am, obviously. The original game was previously added to the library, I believe as a part of the big Rare game drop we got during the February 2024 Partner Showcase. Y'know, the one where Japan got Mother 3 instead? Yeah, that one.
And finally, Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom should require little introduction. It's the third and final entry in the original NES trilogy of hard-as-nails action platformers following the journeys of Ryu Hayabusa. The first Ninja Gaiden was among the first titles added to the NES library after launch, but it took a while to get II, and now we finally have III to complete the trilogy!
Additionally, the Japanese app has a different title in place of RC Pro-Am II, being Dragon Buster, a Namco RPG. With the Switch consoles being region free, you can access it by creating a Japanese Nintendo Account and downloading the Famicom - Nintendo Classics app off of the Japanese eShop.
A pretty decent selection considering how slim the pickings have become at this point! RC Pro-Am II is probably the only one here I'm interested in trying, but regardless, I'm glad to see the NES library continuing to get updated from time to time!
