The gradual rollout of the Xenoblade Chronicles series on Nintendo Switch 2 continues today!
After shadow dropping the Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade X on the eShop back in February, followed by a physical release in April on the same day as Tomodachi Life, we were treated to a Xenoblade news blowout during this year's June Nintendo Direct.
All at once, Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of the three core Xenoblade games were announced, alongside a brand new game for Switch 2 in Xenoblade Genesis. The Switch 2 Editions were to be spread throughout the remainder of 2026, with the upgrade for Definitive Edition launching the same day as the Direct on the eShop.
Today marks the second of four key dates in this rollout, seeing the digital release of the second game's Switch 2 Edition, alongside the physical launch of Definitive Edition! Still to come, the physical version of Xenoblade 2 launches October 1st, and Xenoblade 3 arrives on Switch 2 digitally and physically on the same day, December 3rd.
I've played a good amount of all three of these games on Switch 1, but Xenoblade 2 is the only one I actually finished. And yet, it's probably my least favorite overall out of the trilogy. Not to say it's bad, it's a very good RPG, but the world, story, and characters of 1 and especially 3 just resonated with me more. Funnily enough, I think I spent the least amount of time with 3, yet it's my favorite one. I guess the less time I spend with a Xenoblade game, the more I like it or something. I suppose that makes X my favorite by default due to having never played it.
That being said, I don't plan on grabbing any of these upgrades, at least not right away. I simply don't have time for these lengthy RPGs in this current phase of my life. If I do eventually decide to return to 1 and/or 3 to give them another stab at a full, proper playthrough, I'll definitely be sure to grab these upgrades so I can get the definitive experience. But for 2, I don't see myself ever grabbing that upgrade as I have no plans to ever play the game again, just cause that would be a massive time commitment for something I've already experienced.
Regardless, I still have all the respect in the world for the Xenoblade series, and it makes me happy to see Nintendo continuing to throw so much support behind it with these upgrades and the upcoming Genesis. I imagine it must be a good time to be a Xenoblade fan.
